Terms of Service
Effective April 2026
Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Coati — including the iOS app, the desktop app, the browser listener at coati.fm, and any related services — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Description of service
Coati is a real-time audio sharing platform. A host uses the Coati iOS or desktop app to capture and transmit device audio over the internet. Listeners join via a web link and hear the session in their browser — no app or account required.
Coati transmits audio in real time and does not record, store, or archive any audio content. Audio passes through our relay infrastructure and is discarded immediately after delivery.
Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying algorithms of any part of the Coati service, app, or relay infrastructure.
- Attempt to extract, replicate, or reconstruct any proprietary technology, protocols, or methods used by Coati, including but not limited to the audio synchronization protocol, relay architecture, or audio format processing pipeline.
- Use the service to share content that you do not have the right to share, or that violates any applicable law.
- Interfere with or disrupt the service, servers, or networks connected to the service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service, other user accounts, or computer systems or networks connected to the service.
- Use the service for any commercial purpose without a paid Coati plan, except personal and non-commercial use under the free tier.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute access to the Coati service or any part of it.
Intellectual property
All technology powering Coati — including but not limited to the clock synchronization protocol, the producer/listener relay architecture, the audio format normalization pipeline, the broadcast capture method, and all associated source code, algorithms, and designs — is the exclusive proprietary property of Coati.
The Coati name, logo, and brand identity are trademarks of Coati. You may not use them without prior written permission.
Nothing in these terms grants you any right, title, or interest in the Coati technology or intellectual property beyond the limited right to use the service as intended.
DMCA and copyright
If you believe content shared through a Coati session infringes your copyright, send a notice to copyright@coati.fm including the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). Because Coati does not record or store audio, DMCA takedown is generally limited to identifying and suspending the host account responsible.
User content
You are solely responsible for any audio content you share through Coati. Coati does not monitor, store, or review session content. We are not liable for any content transmitted by users of the service.
Session limits
Free tier sessions support up to 4 concurrent listeners. Paid plans (Pro and Event) support up to 200 concurrent listeners per session. These limits may change at our discretion. Exceeding the listener limit for your plan will prevent additional listeners from joining the session.
Limitation of liability
Coati is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Coati and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use the service.
In no event shall Coati’s total liability exceed the amount you have paid to Coati in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, for any reason, without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and governing law — will remain in effect.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States of America, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in the State of New Jersey.
